<strong>Assistant Meat Department Manager<br><br></strong><strong>Location: Middleton, WI<br><br></strong><strong>Status: Salaried exempt, non-represented, 40 hours per week full time<br><br></strong><strong>Supervision: Supervisory responsibility for meat department staff<br><br></strong><strong>Our Mission: Willy Street Co-op is different from other grocery stores. We’re a group of employees who care about not only what we do but how we do it.<br><br></strong><strong>About the Role: As the Assistant Meat Department Manager, you will have the opportunity to work with the Meat Department Manager in overseeing all department operations, including scheduling, budgeting, inventory, training, and staffing. You will provide effective backup to the Department Manager by assuming responsibility for the department in their absence. <br><br></strong><strong>Who You Are: You have experience working with meat/seafood, and you’re looking for an opportunity to apply that expertise at the department level. You’re passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion.<br><br></strong><strong>What You’ll Do: You will partner with the Department Manager to facilitate and oversee all aspects of the department and its operations. You will assist the Manager in developing and implementing strategies related to profitability, expense control, inventory control, buying and merchandising, and regulatory compliance. In addition, you’ll be involved in the following:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Greet and offer assistance to customers</li><li>Treat people fairly, consistently and with respect</li><li>Know product locations in order to assist customers in finding what they need throughout the store</li><li>Ensure that the department is kept attractive and clean</li><li>Assist with the daily operations of the department, including analyzing workflow, establishing priorities, developing standards and setting deadlines</li><li>Collaborate with the department manager to develop and uphold performance standards for all department staff</li><li>Assist in training, supervising, coaching and evaluating the department’s team</li><li>Assist in scheduling staff according to weekly labor budget and quarterly cost of labor; arrange for coverage of vacant shifts and fill in as needed.</li><li>Work with the department manager to achieve sales, margin and labor goals</li><li>Assist in monitoring and maintaining department supplies</li><li>Abide by all co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documents</li><li>Participate in required training and meetings</li><li>Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor<br><br></li></ul><strong>What You Bring: This role requires the following education, experience, skills and abilities:<br><br></strong><ul><li>At least 2 years of butcher or meat cutting experience </li><li>Prior experience directly supervising other staff</li><li>Thorough knowledge of all aspects of handling, preparing, and packaging meat and seafood products for sale</li><li>A positive attitude and collaborative spirit</li><li>Outstanding customer service skills</li><li>Willingness to be open, to learn and take on new responsibilities</li><li>Regular, predictable attendance</li><li>Effective communication skills in English</li><li>Ability to read and comprehend instructions</li><li>Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness</li><li>Ability to work independently</li><li>Ability to work in a fast-paced environment</li><li>Ability to handle multiple demands</li><li>Adherence to deadlines<br><br></li></ul><strong>Nice-to-Haves: It’s a bonus if you have one or more of the following:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Previous experience with seafood</li><li>Prior experience as an assistant meat department manager</li><li>Education or training in meat cutting, butchery, or other culinary field</li><li>Previous experience working in a co-operative structure<br><br></li></ul><strong>What You’ll Get: Willy Street Co-op is one of Madison’s best-kept secrets in terms of a great place to work.
