Job Title: Café Supervisor

Department: Café

Job Summary: Oxford Athletic Club is the most extensive private health and fitness club in the Pittsburgh area and is nationally recognized by the Health & Fitness Association (HFA).

We are currently looking for a Café Supervisor who will be responsible for assisting in the management and operation of the café within the health club. This role involves supporting the café manager in daily tasks, ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and assisting with inventory management. The assistant will also help in coordinating with other departments to enhance the overall member and guest experience.

Job Relationships: Reports to: Café Manager

Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Essential Duties by Focus Area

1. Member Experience Excellence

Goal: Deliver a consistent, high-quality, and welcoming experience to all members and guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all café staff greet and engage with members in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Address member concerns and feedback in real-time, escalating when necessary.
  • Monitor service speed, accuracy, and quality throughout the day.
  • Actively observe café operations and jump in to assist during peak hours.
  • Support club-wide events by coordinating café promotions and offerings to enhance the overall member experience.
  • Encourage and model a “yes-first” attitude with staff.
Daily Check-ins:
  • Begin each shift with a 5-minute huddle to review daily goals, menu specials, service priorities, and any member feedback.
2. Training & Development Goal: Build a strong, knowledgeable, and motivated team through structured training and ongoing coaching.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Onboard and train all new café staff in accordance with club standards and food safety regulations.
  • Conduct weekly café team meetings to review updates, reinforce service expectations, and provide team coaching.
  • Conduct weekly 1:1’s with café staff
  • Provide real-time coaching and positive reinforcement during shifts.
  • Identify skill gaps and create individual development plans.
  • Maintain training checklists and ensure all staff are cross-trained for flexibility.
Weekly Meetings:
  • Host a 30-minute team meeting every week to review:
  • Service issues and wins
  • Training focus (e.g., POS refresher, menu updates, health code compliance)
  • Individual and team performance
  • Upcoming MOD responsibilities or café events
3. Cleanliness Standards Goal: Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce strict adherence to all health department codes and internal sanitation protocols.
  • Implement and monitor a daily and weekly cleaning checklist (including front of house, equipment, and storage areas).
  • Perform regular walk-throughs to ensure compliance and take corrective action when needed.
  • Ensure staff properly follow hygiene practices, including handwashing, food handling, and uniform standards.
  • Support deep-clean days by organizing tasks and overseeing completion.
Daily Check-ins:
  • Include a sanitation reminder in each shift huddle.
  • Assign specific cleaning zones and verify completion before end-of-shift sign-off.
4. Operational Excellence & SOP Standards Goal: Uphold high operational standards, streamline service, and ensure consistency through strict adherence to SOPs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all café operations follow documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including:
  • Food prep
  • Cash handling
  • Shift opening and closing
  • Inventory counts
  • Customer service procedures
  • Monitor and manage product quality, portion control, and inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain detailed, updated SOP binders and ensure all staff are familiar with procedures.
  • Use daily and weekly checklists to drive accountability and consistency.
  • Partner with Café Manager to review operational data and implement process improvements.
Weekly Focus:
  • Dedicate part of the weekly team meeting to an SOP spotlight — highlight one policy and review with the team.
  • Conduct one-on-one coaching with any team members who are out of compliance.
