Job ID: 3177674 | Amazon Data Services, Inc. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a highly motivated Chief Engineer to join our Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team. This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports AWS. The Data Center Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventive maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. The CE serves as an expert technical resource interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third‑party vendors, and acts as a 24/7 focal point for all facility operations within a given data center. The CE manages small‑to‑medium projects from conception to completion, and leads cluster‑wide technical programs that monitor and maintain the effectiveness of DCEO equipment and staff. Projects involve coordination with engineering, automation, processing, finance, and external support groups locally and globally. The CE creates and delivers key milestones, obtains and tracks cost quotes, documents results, and supports innovation, resiliency, and cost reduction. The CE directs, trains, and supports EOTs in troubleshooting and operations of electrical and mechanical equipment, including stand‑by diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. This position requires that the candidate be a US citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. Key Job Responsibilities Oversee day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center. Operate independently with limited direct management. Act as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues within the data center. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures. Troubleshoot and report of facility and data‑center level events within internal SLA. Create and deploy new standard practices for EOTs, CEs, and vendor support teams. Provide training and guidance to EOTs. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff. Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience. Work cross‑functionally across teams to effect cluster‑wide performance improvement with internal and external partners.
