Position Summary The Part-Time Kennel Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and humane environment for all animals housed at PETSinc. This position supports daily shelter operations by providing compassionate animal care, sanitation, feeding, and monitoring of animal health and behavior. The technician also assists veterinary staff and ensures the facility remains organized and sanitary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care for dogs, cats, and other shelter animals including feeding, watering, and monitoring health and behavior.
  • Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, runs, litter boxes, food bowls, and facility areas according to shelter protocols.
  • Ensure animals have clean bedding, fresh water, and proper enrichment.
  • Assist with animal handling and restraint during veterinary exams, treatments, grooming, and intake procedures.
  • Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, stress, or behavioral concerns and report findings to veterinary staff.
  • Maintain proper sanitation and disease control procedures throughout the facility.
  • Walk dogs and provide appropriate exercise and enrichment activities.
  • Assist with laundry, dishes, waste disposal, and general facility cleanliness.
  • Support intake and discharge procedures for animals entering or leaving the shelter.
  • Maintain accurate records of feeding, treatments, medications, and observations.
  • Provide courteous interaction with volunteers, staff, and visitors when appropriate.
  • Follow all animal safety and workplace safety protocols.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinary technicians during procedures when needed.
  • Help maintain inventory of cleaning and animal care supplies.
  • Participate in periodic deep cleaning of kennel areas and equipment.
  • Assist with basic grooming such as brushing, bathing, and nail trimming when required.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to safely handle animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced animal care environment.
  • Strong attention to sanitation and detail.
  • Ability to lift 40–50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous animal care, kennel, veterinary clinic, or shelter experience.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques.
  • Experience with cleaning protocols in veterinary or animal facilities.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and cleaning.
  • Exposure to animal noise, cleaning chemicals, and animal allergens.
  • Ability to safely handle animals that may be stressed or frightened.
Work Environment This position works primarily in kennel and shelter environments where animals may be barking, meowing, or exhibiting stress-related behaviors. Proper safety procedures and sanitation protocols must be followed at all times.

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
