JOB SUMMARY

Southern Nazarene University (SNU) is seeking to fill a full-time professor position in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor beginning July 1, 2025. Applications will be reviewed in the spring semester and continue until the position is filled.

Department of Psychology and Counseling

The Department of Psychology and Counseling offers undergraduates a B.S. in Psychology. This degree is designed to prepare students for graduate study as well as to meet individual career goals in allied areas. The university also offers two graduate programs in counseling, an M.S. in Counseling Psychology and an M.A. in Applied Psychology.

The Undergraduate Department of Psychology and Counseling is housed within the Beaver Science Building. It is a part of the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The division has a long history of engaging students in intramurally and extramurally funded research opportunities under faculty mentorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

An ideal candidate will enrich the SNU Psychology Department by adopting a collaborative spirit, interdisciplinary mindset, and Christlike approach while contributing their unique expertise and perspectives to the team for the benefit of students and colleagues alike.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach core classes courses contributing to the psychology major and service courses for other departments around the campus. Specific courses may include Developmental Psychology, General Psychology, Psychology of Personality, Social Psychology or other core courses.
  • Mentor and advise students in academic and research endeavors.
  • Participate in departmental and university events, leadership, and service.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity.
  • A strong commitment to pursuing academic excellence and an enthusiasm for teaching and interacting with undergraduates in a Christian liberal arts university in the Wesleyan tradition
  • An appreciation for the importance of Wesleyan “social holiness” that values diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrate these values in daily life.
  • A Ph.D. (ABD or other terminal degree considered) in psychology or a closely related field to suit the position's teaching responsibilities with a demonstrated record of research experience included.
  • A minimum of two years of related work experience and/or relevant training
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible posture towards multiple teaching modalities including but not limited to active learning, flipped classroom, online teaching components, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD, PsyD or related degree in Developmental Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or closely related field.

Supervision Received:

Receives supervision and work assignments from the Psychology Department Chair.

Supervision Exercised:

May be responsible for the coordination of work assignments for student teaching assistants.
