Gensler’s Government Practice Area in the Northwest region is actively seeking a dynamic and visionary Regional Practice Area Leader to drive the growth and innovation of our government design practice. This leadership role is for a seasoned professional who brings a strong track record in government-sector architecture and interiors, alongside entrepreneurial spirit, strategic foresight, and a passion for public-sector work.<br><br>As a key member of Gensler’s Leadership team, you will be responsible for:<br><br><ul><li>Strengthening and expanding Gensler’s portfolio with federal, state, county, and local government clients, including projects like city halls, courthouses, administrative offices, and civic centers.</li><li>Leading business development efforts, deepening existing client relationships, and establishing new ones.</li><li>Providing innovative design leadership and ensuring delivery of best-in-class architecture that supports civic engagement and public service.<br><br></li></ul>Gensler is consistently ranked among the nation's top firms in government-sector architecture, engineering, and construction. This role is a unique opportunity to shape the future of public-sector design in a region known for its innovation and civic leadership.<br><br><strong>Your Role <br><br></strong>Working in collaboration with the San Francisco Office leadership and Global/Regional Leaders in this practice area, you will seek to grow and leverage the capabilities of the San Francisco Bay Area and other regional teams to lead Government projects and build this practice in the NW Region. Gensler is an entrepreneurial, collaborative, non-centralized and non-hierarchical organization. The road map for success will require you to build on the collective excellence of the leaders alongside of you to set and achieve common goals. Your success will be based in the knowledge and patience to provide guidance to a variety of team members, advising and supporting where necessary.<br><br><strong>What You Will Do<br><br></strong><ul><li>Design and deliver world class Government Facilities</li><li>Be in the market, actively engaged with current and potential clients and industry partners</li><li>Develop a regional practice area strategy with a focus on growth</li><li>Be active in thought leadership, writing, speaking, and leading or participating in research</li><li>Manage client expectations, team communication, project organization, and consultant coordination</li><li>Build relationships and collaborate with our colleagues across the region to advance client interests and practice area objectives</li><li>Prepare project proposals, negotiate contracts and fees, participate in interviews, and introductory meetings</li><li>Mentor, support, and direct staff to help them achieve not only client goals but also personal development goals</li><li>Foster strategic client development with federal, state, county, and local governmental entities</li><li>Work in collaboration with other Gensler leaders in this Practice Area to leverage the capabilities of the Firm and help build the practice</li><li>Partner with regional leadership to develop a standard of practice that addresses the unique requirements of this market sector</li><li>Develop client and practice strategies, market positioning, and leadership within a design practice focused on Governmental projects</li><li>Focus on talent development and acquisition.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Your Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Master’s degree or higher in Architecture or Interior Design</li><li>15+ years’ architectural experience, inclusive of 5 or more years’ experience in client development, and/or management of a studio, practice group, or regional team</li><li>Experience developing relationships with new and existing clients that will enhance the firm’s competitive advantage and positioning with federal, state, county, civic centers, and local governmental entities,</li><li>Experience in conceptual planning, development, and direction of architectural projects within the market sector</li><li>Proven track record of success in working in a senior management role with a minimum of three (3) large clients, including participation in development of client relationships that led to new business</li><li>Proven leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop collaborative relationships that lead to successful results, within the firm and externally – with clients, consultants, and other key participants in the design and development process</li><li>Strong presentation skills with the ability to be articulate and convincing in interviews and other presentations</li><li>Preferred certifications include: NCIDQ or licensed architect, LEED</li><li>Visibility in the field, including industry memberships, publications, and conference speaking experience</li><li>Versatile, self-motivated</li><li>High degree of flexibility, ability to work on multiple projects at once</li><li>Outstanding analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, and be an enthusiastic team player</li><li>The base salary will be estimated between $130,000 - 190,000 plus bonuses and benefits, and contingent on relevant experience.<br><br></li></ul>To learn more about Gensler and our Government practice area, please access the links below:<br><br>Gensler | Creating a Better World Through the Power of Design<br><br>Government & Defense | Expertise | Gensler<br><br>Federal Government Agency | Projects | Gensler<br><br><strong>Life at Gensler<br><br></strong>At Gensler, we are as committed to enjoying life as we are to delivering best-in-class design.
