Amazon is searching for a skilled drone operator with extensive experience operating drones via a Remote Control. This qualified candidate will operate Prime Airs development drone in various locations domestically and internationally.
The candidate should demonstrate attention to detail, a safety-oriented attitude, flexibility, and enthusiasm for future technology. This individual will also conduct limited operation readiness activities and logistics planning as needed.
The candidate will join a Research and Development team working on inventing and developing new transformative experiences. We offer competitive salary compensation and a comprehensive medical health package.
Export Control License: This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon's ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.
Key job responsibilities
As a Drone Specialist II, you will serve as an autonomous mission owner responsible for end-to-end flight operations. In this role, you will:
- Lead daily mission planning and execution of complex drone operations
- Conduct comprehensive airspace analysis and secure necessary approvals
- Perform thorough pre-flight and post-flight system inspections
- Ensure equipment readiness through systematic maintenance checks
- Generate detailed mission reports and track operational metrics
- Manage mission-critical documentation and compliance requirements
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational objectives
This role requires independent decision-making abilities and strong attention to detail to ensure safe and successful drone operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in autonomous flight operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
A day in the life
Core Role Distribution:
90% Field Operations: Hands-on drone flights, domestic/international travel
10% Administrative: Reporting and project management.

Basic Qualifications
- 14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
- 2+ years of Remote Contol pilot experience with excellent coordination and execution
- Employees must, with or without reasonable accommodation, be able to lift up to 50 pounds on some occasions, stand/walk for up to 8-10 hours (with breaks), and be able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach
- Experience leading small teams
- Willingness to travel up to 75% of the year
- Valid Driver's License and able to satisfy Amazon driver eligibility criteria
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial UAS industry
- Aviation safety experience as a Safety Officer or similar
- Current US fixed-wing or rotorcraft pilot's certificate.
- Excellent communications and reporting skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $62,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $138,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
