<strong>Job Summary<br><br></strong>The Field Engineer is responsible for evaluation, design, and estimation of natural gas distribution facilities for new business, public and system improvement, and maintenance projects according to company standards and other applicable guidelines and codes. Natural gas distribution facilities may consist of main lines, service lines, and measurement & regulation equipment. The Field Engineer will provide technical assistance and support for Construction and Field Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of distribution facilities.  Collaborate and coordinate efforts with key stakeholders on projects of varying scopes and sizes including large distribution projects.  <br><br><strong>Essential Functions<br><br></strong><ul><li>Evaluate, design, and estimate natural gas distribution facilities</li><li>Prepare permit applications and easement requests required on project designs</li><li>Determine best method to achieve goals and maintain flexibility, while requiring a level of support from others to complete tasks</li><li>Works cooperatively and is a supportive member of team, volunteers assistance</li><li>Prepare budget estimates seeking appropriate approvals in accordance with policy</li><li>Report on project variances when required by policy</li><li>Support Operations employees in emergency situations along with other course of business operations</li><li>Act as liaison to state, county, and local government officials</li><li>Conduct winter preparedness reviews demonstrating knowledge of the system and territory of responsibility</li><li>Accurately estimate and analyze financial information for all types of design projects</li><li>Ensure safe and reliable delivery of energy services while consistently looking for a better way</li><li>Consistent communication and collaboration with key stakeholders and business partners</li><li>Assists in 1<br><br><ul><li>Bachelor’s of Science degree in an ABET-accredited engineering or engineering technology program   </li><li> 1+ years of job relevant of experience  </li><li>Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local codes </li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles, gas system design and budget management </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency with industry codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures relative to gas utility engineering, construction, operations and safety. principles, gas system design and budget management </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency with industry codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures relative to gas utility engineering, construction, operations and safety. </li><li>Demonstrates a basic understanding of federal, state and local codes that are applied within role </li><li>Expert knowledge on regulatory policies and codes along with NiSource Standards and demonstrates training and knowledge sharing to peers </li><li>Understand how individual project spend rolls into overall capital program and NiSource financial goals.  Coaching and reviewing estimates of peers and new team members </li><li>Competency to complete variance documentation when necessary.  Identifies changes to job order and compare to estimate,
