The Hourly Training Specialist – Major Component Upgrades (MCU) is responsible for delivering hands-on, field-based training to GE Vernova Wind Services technicians performing major component upgrades across the North American fleet. This role focuses on developing technician competency for gearbox, generator, main bearing, and related heavy component work, ensuring execution aligns with GE Vernova EHS standards, GE Vernova technical requirements, and approved MCU standard work.

Job Description

Hands-On MCU Field Training

· Deliver practical, hands-on MCU training at wind sites and GE Vernova training facilities.

· Train internal and external technicians on gearbox, generator, and main bearing exchanges.

· Instruct on rigging practices, crane interface, lift plans, and heavy component handling.

· Train on aux equipment, tooling, torquing, alignment, critical tolerances, and verification steps.

· Coach technicians during controlled training evolutions and live execution support as required.

Competency Assessment & Qualification

· Assess technician competency through direct observation, practical demonstrations, and evaluations.

· Verify technician readiness prior to assignment on MCU projects.

· Complete and maintain training records, qualification matrices, and competency sign-offs.

· Provide structured feedback and coaching to address skill gaps.

Safety & Quality Leadership

· Reinforce GE Vernova EHS expectations and critical risk controls related to heavy lifts, stored energy, and dropped objects.

· Ensure training aligns with OEM manuals, GE Vernova work instructions, and MCU execution standards.

· Support incident investigations by identifying training or competency gaps and recommended corrective actions.

· Promote consistent quality execution and adherence to approved lift plans and procedures.

Training Program Support & Continuous Improvement

· Support development and continuous improvement of MCU training content, job aids, and standard work.

· Provide field feedback to training and operations leadership on execution challenges and trends.

· Support customer, regulatory, and internal audit requirements related to training and qualifications.

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Minimum 5 years of hands-on wind turbine major component upgrade experience.

· Demonstrated experience performing gearbox, generator, and/or main bearing exchanges.

· Strong understanding of crane operations, rigging, lift planning, and heavy component handling.

· Ability to effectively train, coach, and evaluate adult learners in a field environment.

· Willingness to travel extensively across North America.

· Strong communication, leadership, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· Previous experience as an MCU Lead Technician, Foreman, or Supervisor.

· Experience delivering hands-on technical or safety training.

· Familiarity with GE wind turbine platforms and tooling.

· Train-the-trainer or instructional certification.

· Experience working in prevailing wage and/or union environments.

Work Environment & Travel

This is an hourly role with extensive travel (up to 100%). Work is performed at active wind sites, training towers, and indoor/outdoor training facilities, with regular exposure to heights, weather, crane operations, and industrial environments.
