Job Title: Production Manager

Grade: PE06

Purpose of the role:

To lead and manage production shift teams effectively and efficiently in order to deliver on the production plan and related activities in profitable manner. To oversee all aspects of our glass packaging production operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing production schedules, ensuring product quality, maintaining equipment, and leading a team to meet production targets efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize production schedules to meet customer demand and delivery timelines.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of glass forming and packaging equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures to maintain high product standards.
  • Manage inventory and ensure the availability of raw materials and packaging supplies.
  • Coordinate with sales, procurement, and logistics departments for smooth operations.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate production staff performance.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Prepare and present production reports to senior management.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions promptly.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

  • Develop and implement the production strategy.
  • Compile comprehensive operational plans in line with strategy, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Keep abreast with changes in relevant guidelines and other legislation, to make recommendations where policies and procedures need to be amended.
  • Develop, enhance and implement policies, processes and procedures that are relevant to the section and enhance service delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to implement new systems and processes, enabling integration to other areas.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Manage overall financial budget for the department to ensure financial budget and controls contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department and supports the accomplishment of service delivery objectives.
  • Provide input into the development of departmental annual financial plans.
  • Manage and control short-term CAPEX and operational budget of the department to ensure effective and efficient functioning within budgetary constraints.
  • Analyse and report on departmental trends and operating requirements to determine funding requirements for the financial year.
  • Monitor departmental expenditure against budget allocations and request reallocation as required.
  • Propose and implement corrective measures to rectify deviations to budgetary provisions, financial regulations, audit requirements and departmental procedures.
  • Approve and sign off invoice and approve, requisitions, etc. for expenditure, within levels of authority.
  • Comply with all financial, Supply Chain Management (SCM) and other iSanti Glass regulations and policies.

PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

  • Responsible for production operations, driving results and leading the team at the front line.
  • Required to run a four-shift structure, ensuring the required expertise is on site at all times.
  • Develop and review plant capacity plans to ensure optimum capacity utilization.
  • Conduct process capability studies to ensure optimal process operation.
  • Ensure execution on maintenance plans to ensure phase reliability.
  • Implement job instructions for critical maintenance tasks, with steps necessary steps to complete the task.
  • Implement a schedule to review and upgrade the SWI’s.
  • Allow for implementation of maintenance planning and scheduling for the phase and participate to ensure alignment with the production strategy.
  • Implement and manage the Autonomous Operations (ATO) activities for all equipment for the phase.
  • Manage quality analysis equipment performance and initiate corrective action where required.
  • Conduct plant walkabouts on a daily basis.
  • Manage the phase operations of the relevant furnace in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Develop and implement Business Continuity Planning.
  • Responsible to check the team produces good quality bottles in right packaging.
  • Required to interact with unions on a regular basis.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Create and maintain a conducive environment for work to ensure optimum performance is realised for the benefit of the department using appropriate Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Lead the team according to Isanti’s leadership principles and values, including managing employee lifecycle from recruitment through to exit, performance management, training and development, discipline and grievance management, retention, reward and people administration to ensure a high-performance culture.
  • Comply with and implement all appropriate Human Resources policies and procedures.

STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure information, advice or opinions on relevant matters is made available and/or communicated appropriately and timeously.
  • Utilise opportunities presented to enhance the relationship between management, unions and employees, and implement processes to maximise a collaborative working relationship.

SHEQ AND RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, guidelines and Management of Change (MOC).
  • Ensure Adherence to Health and Safety measures and manage compliance to all ISO standards, HACCP etc.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with all appropriate by-laws, governance and risk management policies and procedures to reduce and remediate process, operational, regulatory and compliance risks for the department.
  • Set and manage the phase quality targets.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in a glass manufacturing environment, FMCG
  • People Management experience

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of glass forming processes and packaging technologies.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in production planning software and ERP systems.
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong leadership, self-management, analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills essential
  • Excellent knowledge of Planned Maintenance Execution
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills essential
  • Ability to successfully influence and motivate teams, peers and management.
  • Strong plant preventative maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong systematic problem-solving skills
